Is Atlas Ocean Voyages good for Antarctica?

Yes, for travelers who want an all-inclusive small ship in the Antarctic summer. Atlas, an IAATO member founded in 2019, sends World Navigator and World Traveller south in 2026-27 with up to 176 guests. Fares start at $12,150 per guest for 11 nights from Ushuaia, including taxes, drinks, gratuities and the Buenos Aires charter. The yachts are Polar Code Category C, and kayaking costs extra.

Is Atlas Ocean Voyages good for Antarctica?

Yes, for travelers who want a small, all-inclusive ship and will sail in the Antarctic summer. Atlas Ocean Voyages is an IAATO operator whose yachts carry up to 176 guests on Antarctic trips, and its 2026-27 Antarctic Peninsula fares start at $12,150 per guest for 11 nights from Ushuaia, with government taxes, a Buenos Aires hotel night and the charter flight south included.12 Drinks, gratuities and 24-hour room service are part of every fare.3

There are two trade-offs. The yachts are Polar Code Category C, the class for open water and ice lighter than thin first-year ice, so they are built for summer conditions rather than heavy pack ice.45 And sea kayaking and paddleboarding cost extra, while camping is offered only when conditions allow.46

Who owns Atlas Ocean Voyages, and which ships does it sail?

Atlas is the luxury expedition brand of Mystic Invest Holding, led by president and CEO James A. Rodriguez, and its May 2026 press release was datelined Fort Lauderdale, Florida.7 IAATO names Mystic Cruises, based in Porto and Funchal, Portugal, as the parent; Mystic says Atlas was founded in 2019 and launched World Navigator, its first ship, in 2021.189

The fleet is three near-identical yachts with 100 suites each, 129 m (423 ft) long and 10,000 gross tons, built at the West Sea shipyard in Viana do Castelo and registered in Portugal.410 A fourth, the 200-suite Atlas Adventurer, is due in 2028, but its first season starts on November 6, 2028, in Kobe and covers Asia and Africa, not the poles.47

World Voyager is under charter to Quark Expeditions for three Antarctic seasons starting in 2026-27, so in Antarctica you book it through Quark.13 Atlas still sells it for Europe and the Arctic, including five Svalbard, Iceland, Norway and East Greenland trips in summer 2027.12

World Explorer, the 2019-built Mystic ship that Quark sailed in Antarctica, has left the polar market: after a final season with Quark it is being converted into Windstar Cruises' Star Explorer for the Mediterranean, starting December 28, 2026.14

How much does an Atlas Antarctica cruise cost?

Atlas's 2026-27 Antarctic fares run from $12,150 to $30,399 per guest, or roughly $965 to $2,470 per night at the lowest published fare.11 These are the lowest fares Atlas showed on October 15, 2026, for each trip and yacht, per guest with two sharing, with any Bonus Savings already deducted:

The cheapest fare is a guarantee: $12,150 on March 8 buys at least a 183 sq ft (17 sq m) Ocean Suite on deck 3, assigned up to seven days before sailing, while a confirmed Veranda Suite costs $13,950.2 Four other departures showed Call for Fares.11

Fares include government taxes and fees of $330 to $990 per guest and are cruise-only, so international flights are extra.154 The Bonus Savings are time-limited: Explorer's Choice fares are valid through December 31, 2026, Atlas says fares rise on January 4, and its Season of Discovery event offers up to 40% off select sailings booked from October 8 to December 31, 2026.151617 Each booking also picks one amenity (two in Reserve Collection suites), such as a $2,000 air credit per suite on Antarctic trips, which Atlas applies as dollars off the fare; ask whether a quote already reflects it.15 Our Antarctica trip cost guide compares other lines.

What is included in an Atlas fare, and what costs extra?

An Atlas fare covers drinks, gratuities and the Ushuaia logistics, but not the activities some rivals include.32

IncludedExtra
Wines, spirits and craft beer in bars and lounges; stocked minibar; 24-hour room service3International flights; air quotes are available within 270 days of sailing4

What do Atlas Ocean Voyages reviews say?

The awards Atlas lists are strong, but we have no independent review score we can cite, and we have not sailed with the line. Its awards page lists World Traveller on Condé Nast Traveler's 2026 Gold List of the best cruise ships, Atlas among Travel + Leisure's 2026 World's Best Awards for intimate-ship ocean cruise lines, and two 2025 readers' awards: Condé Nast Traveler for expedition ships and Porthole Cruise and Travel for Best Antarctic Cruise.3 World Navigator's main restaurant, Porto, won Best Restaurant at the 2025 F&B@Sea Awards.26

Readers' awards measure how much guests liked the trip, not how a yacht handles heavy ice or how often it lands. For those, weigh the landing numbers, ice rating and cancellation terms below.

How many guests go ashore at once on an Atlas expedition?

At most 100, because IAATO caps any landing site at 100 visitors, with one guide per 20 guests ashore and one ship per site at a time.18 With up to 176 guests on an Antarctic trip, a full Atlas yacht lands in groups.1 Atlas says its polar expedition teams number up to 17 guides, naturalists and other specialists.6

The yachts sail close to full: in 2025-26, IAATO counted 1,284 passengers on World Navigator's 8 traditional voyages and 2,037 on World Traveller's 13, about 157 to 161 a trip.19 Our guide to small versus large expedition ships explains what that means ashore.

Are Atlas Ocean Voyages ships safe in ice?

They are built for summer polar conditions, not heavy ice. Atlas lists Polar Category C and Ice Class 1B, suited to the "mild ice conditions and more open water" of its summer trips.4 Under the IMO Polar Code, Category C covers open water or ice lighter than the thin first-year ice of Category B, and on the Finnish-Swedish scale 1B means moderately difficult ice of about 1 to 1.6 ft (0.3 to 0.5 m).520

Mystic says the hulls are reinforced for ice and that dynamic positioning lets the yachts hold station without anchoring.21 Each has a Medical Center with a licensed doctor, charged separately, and Atlas strongly recommends insurance beyond the emergency medical plan in the fare.4

Which Atlas Antarctica trip should you book?

  • Lowest fare: Exploring the Last Continent on World Navigator, March 8, 2027, from $12,150, with six Peninsula days planned.2
  • The Falklands too: Antarctic & Falklands Adventure on World Traveller, 16 nights from $15,444, the lowest per-night fare of Atlas's 2026-27 Antarctic trips.11 See our Falkland Islands page.
  • South Georgia: Grand Antarctica, 18 nights from January 3, 2027, at $30,399, which adds South Georgia and the Falklands to four Peninsula days.22
  • No sea crossing: Drake Express flies both ways between Punta Arenas and King George Island, from $17,276 on December 14.23 Our fly or sail guide covers the trade-off.

Departures run from November 8, 2026, to March 19, 2027, and the lowest fares fall in late November and March, when Bonus Savings of 10% to 25% apply.11 Our guide to the best time to visit Antarctica explains what each month brings.

Does Atlas Ocean Voyages go to the Arctic?

Yes. In summer 2027 World Navigator and World Voyager run 12 Arctic departures from Longyearbyen, Nuuk, Churchill, Reykjavik and Tromsø, leaving between June 12 and September 13, with fares from $10,666 per guest.12

World Voyager stays between Iceland, Svalbard and northern Norway; World Navigator links Iceland, Greenland and Arctic Canada.12 No kayaks or paddleboards are offered on Arctic, Iceland or Greenland trips.4 AECO, the Arctic operators' association, lists Atlas's parent Mystic Cruises as a provisional member; Atlas has no entry of its own.24 Our Arctic cruises guide compares other lines.

What are Atlas's booking and cancellation terms?

Bookings made more than 120 days out need a 25% deposit within three days, and the balance is due 121 days before sailing.4 Cancellation costs a $250 per person administration fee until 121 days out, then 25% of the cruise fare at 120 to 91 days, 50% at 90 to 76 days, 75% at 75 to 46 days and 100% from 45 days; taxes and fees are refunded.4

The minimum age on polar trips is 8, solo travelers pay 125% to 150% of the double fare on select sailings, and motorized wheelchairs and scooters are not allowed on board, though each yacht has two accessible suites.4

How does Atlas compare with Quark on the same ship design?

Atlas is the cheaper way onto this design in Antarctica: its lowest 2026-27 fare is $12,150 on World Navigator, against $16,890 with Quark on the sister yacht World Voyager.225 Quark's fare, for Antarctic Marine Mammals on March 5, 2027, includes a $1,295 charter flight and hotel package from Buenos Aires.25 Atlas's includes a Buenos Aires hotel night and charter flights, plus gratuities and open bars.23 What Quark adds is its Science & Discovery program, built into every World Voyager departure; see our World Voyager page.13 For other luxury small ships, see our luxury Antarctica cruises guide and the Seabourn and Ponant pages.

Who should skip Atlas Ocean Voyages?

Skip Atlas if you want a ship built for heavy ice, kayaking and camping in the fare, or flexible cancellation, since 25% of the fare is lost from 120 days out.46 Travelers who want drinks, tips and the Buenos Aires charter bundled into a fare from under $1,200 a night should shortlist it and read the World Navigator and World Traveller pages next.11

Our verdict

A polished all-inclusive small-ship line whose Antarctic fares, from $12,150 for 11 nights, already cover taxes, drinks, gratuities, a Buenos Aires hotel night and the charter to Ushuaia. The trade-offs are Polar Code Category C yachts built for summer ice, paid kayaking and a cancellation schedule that charges 25% from 120 days out.
