Is World Traveller a good ship for Antarctica?

Yes, especially if you want more than a straight Peninsula round trip. World Traveller is the 2022 yacht of Atlas Ocean Voyages, and in 2026-27 it runs all of Atlas's Antarctic trips that add the Falkland Islands or South Georgia or skip the Drake Passage by plane.12 Its 12 departures start at $14,114 per guest, with two sharing, for 11 nights from Ushuaia on March 2, 2027.3

Like every Atlas fare, that price includes drinks, gratuities and 24-hour room service, and Ushuaia departures add a Buenos Aires hotel night and the charter flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia.43 Two limits apply: the yacht carries up to 176 guests in Antarctica, so landings go in groups, and it is Polar Category C, a summer-ice rating.56 We have not sailed on World Traveller; this page draws on Atlas's ship, departure and FAQ pages and on IAATO data.

How is World Traveller different from World Navigator?

Physically it is a twin: Atlas builds all three of its current yachts to the same 128.9 m (423 ft), 10,000-gross-ton, 100-suite design, so see the World Navigator page for the full specification table.6 The differences are in the schedule, the interiors and a few suite rules.

World Traveller's decor uses blue and white fabrics with terracotta, green and slate accents, and its lecture room is the Vasco da Gama Auditorium.9 Atlas's awards page lists it on Condé Nast Traveler's 2026 Gold List of the best cruise ships.4 The Discovery Suite, at 445 sq ft (41 sq m) on deck 5, takes a third guest on this yacht but not on World Navigator, which matters for a family of three who want a Reserve Collection suite with butler service.69

Which Antarctic trips does World Traveller run in 2026-27?

Seven different itineraries over 12 departures, from November 12, 2026, to March 29, 2027.2 These were the lowest fares on each departure page on October 15, 2026, per guest with two sharing, government taxes included and any Bonus Savings already applied:

"Planned Antarctic days" is our count of the days each departure page assigns to the Antarctic Peninsula, the Antarctic Sound or the Antarctic Circle crossing; all are Captain's Choice, so weather can change them.2 The December 23 departure spans Christmas and New Year. Discounts shown were 25% on both Falklands trips, 20% on the two Drake Express dates and 15% on March 2, all under Explorer's Choice fares valid through December 31, 2026.912 On December 7, only Reserve Collection suites showed a fare.13

Measured per planned Antarctic day, the cheapest options are Exploring the Last Continent on March 2, about $2,352, and Drake Express on December 14, about $2,879; the 9-night Antarctic Discovery on February 10 works out near $3,700, because four of its ten days are Drake crossings.2 For other ways to cut the cost, see our cheapest way to Antarctica guide.

Is flying the Drake on World Traveller worth it?

It buys time in Antarctica rather than savings. Drake Express flies from Punta Arenas to King George Island, plans five Peninsula days and a day in the Antarctic Sound, and flies back, all in seven nights.14 Its lowest fare, $17,276 on December 14, works out to about $2,468 a night, against $1,283 a night on the March 2 sailing.143

The Drake Express fare includes a Punta Arenas hotel night before and after, both charter flights, and a dinner in Punta Arenas with pisco sours, lamb al asador and a show of traditional song and dance.14 Drake Fly & Sail, on November 28 only, sails south from Ushuaia, crosses the Drake once and flies north from King George Island, from $18,499.15 The King George Island charters allow one checked bag of up to 42 lb (19 kg) and an 11 lb (5 kg) carry-on, tighter than the 50 lb (23 kg) and 17 lb (8 kg) allowed on the Buenos Aires to Ushuaia flights.6 Our fly or sail guide lays out the trade-offs.

What do the Falklands and South Georgia trips add?

They add islands that Atlas's Peninsula round trips never reach, at a lower nightly fare. Antarctic & Falklands Adventure plans stops at West Point, Carcass and Saunders islands and at Stanley, plus Peninsula days and one Drake crossing; at $15,444 for 16 nights it is about $965 a night.1617 The November 12 departure starts in Buenos Aires with three sea days south; the March 13 departure runs the other way, from Ushuaia back to Buenos Aires.2

Wildlife expert Ron Magill, a Zoo Miami Foundation goodwill ambassador and host of Mundo Salvaje con Ron Magill, is scheduled to sail on World Traveller on March 13, 2027, giving talks and photography tips.18 Grand Antarctica, on January 3, is Atlas's longest 2026-27 trip at 18 nights: four Peninsula days, then South Georgia, then Stanley, Saunders and Carcass islands, from $30,399.19 Each guest needs a South Georgia visitor permit, £250 per person from July 1, 2026, and applications made fewer than eight days before arrival may cost a late fee; without a permit you cannot go ashore or join Zodiac landings there.6 Read our South Georgia page before booking.

Does World Traveller sail to the Arctic?

No, not in 2027. After its last Antarctic trip ends in Buenos Aires on March 29, 2027, World Traveller spends April 15 to October 17 on Epicurean voyages in the Mediterranean, from Las Palmas and Malaga to Nice, Naples, Valletta, Athens, Venice and Monte Carlo.92 It returns to Antarctica on November 10, 2027.9 For Atlas in the Arctic, look at World Navigator or World Voyager, or our Arctic cruises guide.

What is life on board World Traveller like?

Atlas runs it as a small, all-inclusive yacht where expedition days end with "Après Expedition" drinks and canapés.9 Dining is in Lisboa, with a vegetarian option every night; the evening Josper grill chophouse at 7AFT Grill runs only on Epicurean and Cultural trips, not polar ones.9 Water's Edge, an open deck about 30 ft (9 m) above the sea with heated seats, is the place for whale watching, and The Dome serves afternoon tea under a 270-degree view.9

World Traveller is Polar Category C and Ice Class 1B, like its sisters, and Atlas says its summer routes meet mild ice and more open water.6 Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding cost extra in Antarctica, and camping is offered only when conditions allow.618 On landings, IAATO limits any site to 100 people ashore at once, one guide per 20.20

How full does World Traveller sail?

Close to full. IAATO's figures for 2025-26 show World Traveller carried 2,037 passengers on 13 Antarctic voyages, about 157 per trip.21 For 2026-27, IAATO's April estimate lists 8 traditional voyages and 3 fly-cruises for the ship.21 Our guide to small versus large expedition ships explains how numbers like these play out ashore.

Who should book World Traveller?

Book it for the Falklands with Antarctica, South Georgia in January, Christmas and New Year on the ice, or a Drake Express that keeps the sea crossing off your trip.2 Pick World Navigator instead for Atlas's lowest Antarctic fare, and look elsewhere if you need a heavy-ice ship, included kayaking, or an Arctic voyage in 2027.26 Our luxury Antarctica cruises guide compares other small all-inclusive ships.

Our verdict

The Atlas yacht with the most varied Antarctic program: Falklands voyages from $15,444 for 16 nights, an 18-night South Georgia trip and Drake Express fly-cruises from Punta Arenas, all with drinks, tips and flights bundled in. Its cheapest Peninsula fare sits about $2,000 above World Navigator's, and it has no Arctic season in 2027.

Best for: the Falklands with Antarctica, South Georgia in January, Christmas and New Year sailings, travelers who want to fly over the Drake Passage, families of three in a Reserve suite
