Is World Navigator a good ship for Antarctica?

Yes, if you want an all-inclusive small ship at the lowest fares Atlas sells in Antarctica. World Navigator was the first yacht of Atlas Ocean Voyages, launched in 2021, and it carries up to 176 guests in 100 suites on Antarctic trips.123 All 10 of its 2026-27 departures are round trips from Ushuaia to the Antarctic Peninsula, and the cheapest, 11 nights from March 8, 2027, costs $12,150 per guest with two sharing.4

That fare buys a guaranteed Ocean Suite and includes government taxes, a Buenos Aires hotel night and charter flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia.5 Drinks, gratuities and 24-hour room service are part of every Atlas fare.6 The limit is the hull: World Navigator is Polar Category C and Ice Class 1B, rated for open water and light ice rather than heavy pack.78 In summer 2027 it is also the only Atlas yacht sailing Greenland's west coast and Arctic Canada.13 We have not sailed on World Navigator; this page uses Atlas's ship, voyage and FAQ pages, IAATO records and the IMO Polar Code.

What are World Navigator's specifications?

World Navigator is a 128.9 m (423 ft), 10,000-gross-ton yacht with 100 suites, built at the West Sea shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.7 World Traveller and World Voyager share the same dimensions, so the hull figures in this table apply to all three.

Atlas's IAATO profile describes a hybrid power system that can burn as little as one fifth of the fuel of conventional cruise-ship systems, plus a hydro-jet that lets the yacht move quietly at up to 5 knots near wildlife.3 Mystic Cruises, which IAATO lists as Atlas's parent company, says the propulsion was developed with Rolls-Royce, that dynamic positioning holds the yacht in place without dropping anchor, and that World Navigator has stabilization technology for rough seas.10

Category C is the third and least ice-capable of the Polar Code's ship categories, meant for open water or ice lighter than the thin first-year ice of Category B.8 On the Finnish-Swedish scale, 1B covers moderately difficult ice of about 1 to 1.6 ft (0.3 to 0.5 m).11 Atlas itself says its summer itineraries meet "mild ice conditions and more open water," which is what these ratings allow.7

Where does World Navigator sail in 2026-27 and 2027?

It spends the southern summer in Antarctica, the spring in Europe and the northern summer between Iceland, Greenland and Arctic Canada.12

One gap matters for planning: World Navigator returns to Ushuaia on January 5, 2027, and does not sail again until February 5.4 If you want Antarctica in January with Atlas, World Traveller leaves on January 3 and January 21.4 For 2027-28, World Navigator's schedule adds fly-cruises from King George Island on November 28 and December 5, 2027, a route World Traveller runs in 2026-27.12

How much does a World Navigator Antarctica cruise cost?

Published 2026-27 fares run from $12,150 to $18,299 per guest, or about $1,105 to $2,033 a night; three departures showed Call for Fares instead of a price.4 These are the lowest fares on each departure page on October 15, 2026, per guest with two sharing, taxes included and any Bonus Savings already taken off:

The 9-night Antarctic Discovery plans four days on the Peninsula, the 11-night Exploring the Last Continent six, and Crossing the Antarctic Circle schedules a crossing of the Antarctic Circle on day 4 as a Captain's Choice stop, so ice and weather decide.41415 The $12,150 fare is an Ocean Suite Guarantee: you get a 183 sq ft (17 sq m) suite on deck 3 or better, with the exact suite assigned no later than seven days before sailing, and a Veranda Suite Guarantee on the same date was $13,650.5

The discounts are Atlas's Explorer's Choice fares, valid through December 31, 2026.16 Taxes and fees of $495 (9 nights) or $605 (11 nights) are already in the fare, but international flights are not.145 For the wider budget, see our Antarctica trip cost guide.

Which World Navigator suite should you book?

Book the Adventure Ocean Suite for the lowest fare, or a deck 5 or 6 suite for more space: the Adventure Ocean is the smallest category and the only one on deck 3.12 Every suite has a queen bed that converts to twins, and four categories on this yacht take a third guest: Horizon, Deluxe Veranda, Journey and Navigator.7

Concierge suites have either a private veranda or a floor-to-ceiling window with a top-drop Juliet balcony, and they add wash-and-fold laundry and a galley tour with a tasting. Reserve suites add a butler and an expanded in-room dining menu.12 Our balcony guide weighs whether a veranda is worth it in the cold.

The public rooms follow what Atlas calls a 1940s, art deco look. The main restaurant, Porto, won Best Restaurant at the 2025 F&B@Sea Awards; lectures and daily briefings happen in the Dom Henrique Auditorium; and Water's Edge, an open deck about 30 ft (9 m) above the sea, has heated seats for watching wildlife.12

What are World Navigator's 2027 Arctic voyages?

World Navigator is the only Atlas yacht sailing to Arctic Canada and Greenland's west coast in 2027, with seven Arctic departures from June 30 to September 13 and published fares from $10,666 to $19,399 per guest.13

Polar Wilderness Quest ends with an overnight in Churchill, which Atlas calls renowned for belugas, and lists walrus and polar bears among the wildlife to look for in Canada's Arctic.20 The four trips that begin in Nuuk or Churchill include a Toronto airport hotel night and a charter flight from Toronto.20212223 Kayaks and paddleboards are not offered on Arctic, Iceland or Greenland trips.7 See our Greenland page and Arctic cruises guide.

How crowded are World Navigator's landings?

A full ship cannot land at once: IAATO allows no more than 100 people ashore at a site at one time, with one guide for every 20.24 With up to 176 guests on board in Antarctica, landings run in groups.3 In practice the yacht sailed close to that number in 2025-26: IAATO counted 1,284 passengers on World Navigator's 8 Antarctic voyages, about 160 a trip, and 267 on its 2 fly-cruises.25 Atlas says its polar expedition teams number up to 17 guides and specialists, and Zodiacs go ashore up to twice a day when conditions allow.26 Our guide to small versus large expedition ships puts those numbers in context.

How is World Navigator different from its sisters?

All three share the same dimensions, 100 suites and suite categories; what changes is the decor, the schedule and the price.72

  • World Navigator has the art deco interior, the Porto restaurant, Atlas's cheapest 2026-27 Antarctic fare and the Greenland and Canada program.413
  • World Traveller has an Italian theme and runs Atlas's 2026-27 Falklands, South Georgia and fly-the-Drake trips, then spends summer 2027 in the Mediterranean.427
  • World Voyager has a Nordic theme, sails Antarctica for Quark Expeditions under charter from 2026-27, and runs Atlas's Svalbard, Norway and East Greenland trips in 2027.2813

Who should book World Navigator, and who should skip it?

Book it for the lowest all-inclusive fare in Atlas's Antarctic program, a short 9-night trip in November or March, or an Arctic route that links Greenland with Canada.413 Skip it if you want January dates, a ship rated for heavy ice, kayaking included in the fare, or a triple in one of the two cheapest suite types, which take only two guests.47 Kayaking and paddleboarding cost extra in Antarctica, and camping depends on conditions.726 Compare it with other options in our guide to luxury Antarctica cruises.

Our verdict

Atlas's value yacht: the cheapest all-inclusive Antarctic fares in its 2026-27 program, from $12,150 for 11 nights with drinks, tips and the Buenos Aires charter included, plus the only Atlas route linking Greenland and Arctic Canada in 2027. It is Polar Category C, built for summer ice, has no January departures and charges extra for kayaking.

Best for: couples who want an all-inclusive fare at the lowest Atlas price, short November and March trips, crossing the Antarctic Circle, west Greenland and Hudson Bay in summer 2027
