Is Swan Hellenic good for Antarctica?
Yes, if you want a small ice-strengthened ship and one fare that already covers the flights to Ushuaia, drinks and tips. Swan Hellenic sails three ships that entered service between 2021 and 2023, carrying 152 to 192 guests, and all three spend the 2026-27 season in Antarctica.12 Its cheapest published fare for the season is $9,800 per person for 9 nights on SH Diana from November 12, 2026, including a Buenos Aires hotel night and charter flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia.3
The catches are timing and extras. The same 9-night route costs $22,150 to $22,825 on some January and February sailings, and kayaking and snowshoeing are paid add-ons.45 Swan Hellenic belongs to IAATO, which sets the landing rules in Antarctica, and to AECO, its Arctic counterpart.67 We have not sailed with Swan Hellenic; this page compares the line from its own pages read on October 15, 2026, IAATO records and trade press, and each ship page has the specifications and full schedule.
Who owns Swan Hellenic, and which ships does it sail?
Swan Hellenic is an old British cruise name relaunched with new polar ships; its website is run by Swan Hellenic Travel Limited of Larnaca, Cyprus, and Andrea Zito is chief executive.89 It grew from a 1950 tour of Greek antiquities organized by Swan's Tours, a British travel agent; P&O bought it in 1996, and in 2019 a consortium of entrepreneurs bought the brand rights and ordered ice-class ships.1 The first, SH Minerva, was laid up for almost three years after sanctions caught its financing and returned only in November 2025.10

Guests and ice class are from each ship's page, departures from the 2026-27 Antarctic listing.1112134 The fleet overview's "no more than 152 guests" fits only Minerva and Vega.14 PC5 is rated for year-round operation in medium first-year ice and PC6 only for summer and autumn in the same ice, so Diana sits one class below its sisters.15
How much does a Swan Hellenic Antarctica cruise cost?
Published 2026-27 fares start at $9,800 for 9 nights and reach $30,725 for the 33-night crossing to New Zealand, about $790 to $1,430 a night in the cheapest cabin offered on each trip below.4 All are Cruise Plus fares in US dollars per person with two sharing, read October 15, 2026; solo travelers pay a single supplement that some departures waive.16

Rows marked Balcony are trips where Oceanview showed "Price on request." Which Swan Hellenic ship and trip should you book?
Pick the route first, because each ship sails different ones, then the earliest or latest date. A first trip on a budget is SH Diana's November 12 Antarctic Wonders, four days on the Antarctic Peninsula for $9,800.3 For the Antarctic Circle, choose Diana's February 24 sailing or SH Vega's two dates on a PC5 hull; for the Weddell Sea, SH Minerva on January 23. Minerva is the only ship with round trips to South Georgia and the Falklands this season, and it alone crosses the Ross Sea to New Zealand, while Diana links Ushuaia and Cape Town via Tristan da Cunha.4 Our South Georgia guide weighs the extra cost.
What is included in a Swan Hellenic fare, and what costs extra?
Cruise Plus covers almost everything between Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires. On the Antarctic round trips we read it includes a pre-cruise night in a 4- or 5-star Buenos Aires hotel with breakfast, charter flights to and from Ushuaia, group transfers, all meals, beer, wine and spirits at any time, 24-hour room service, lectures, all expedition landings, one selected shore excursion per port, entry-level Wi-Fi, onboard gratuities and port taxes.3 Guests keep a branded parka, a waterproof backpack and a water bottle, and borrow rubber boots.3 One-way voyages include a hotel night at the start and only the charter at the Argentine end, so you buy your own flight home from Cape Town or Dunedin.2223
Paid extras start with the activities. Kayaking and snowshoeing are optional excursions "available for an additional charge," with no price shown; each guest may pre-book one kayak outing per cruise, shared in a two-person kayak, and the FAQ asks for prior kayaking experience.516 Faster internet costs $25 (Gold, 2 Mbps) or $37 (Platinum, 7 Mbps) per device per day; the free Silver tier runs at 1 Mbps for messaging.16 International flights, premium alcohol, spa treatments and visas are also extra, travel insurance is mandatory, and each ship has a doctor and a nurse through the VIKAND medical partnership.16
What do Swan Hellenic reviews say?
The independent recognition we can cite is from Cruise Critic: Swan Hellenic won Best Expedition Antarctica in its 2025 Best in Cruise Awards and Best Value Expedition Cruise Line for the third year in a row.9 The company reported a record 2025-26 Antarctic season, with 53% more guests and 66% more net revenue, and said 2026-27 was 65% booked by March 2026.9 Its ship pages carry guest comments, but the line picks them, so read them as marketing.13 We have no independent review score to cite.
How many guests go ashore at once on a Swan Hellenic trip?
No more than 100 at one site, because IAATO caps any landing at 100 visitors, requires one guide for every 20 guests ashore and allows one ship per site at a time.24 Every ship in the fleet therefore lands in at least two groups when full, and even the 2025-26 averages IAATO counted, about 126 passengers a trip on Minerva, 141 on Vega and 150 on Diana, are above 100.2 Bird flu adds limits: Swan Hellenic keeps guests 16 ft (5 m) from wildlife and may switch to Zodiac cruising only where cases are severe.16 Our guide to small versus large expedition ships explains what the numbers mean ashore.
Does Swan Hellenic go to the Arctic?
Yes. In summer 2027 SH Vega sails 13 Arctic departures from Svalbard to northwest Greenland and SH Diana four around Svalbard, while SH Minerva spends the northern summer in Asia and the Pacific.2526

Fares are the cheapest cabin listed on October 15, 2026; the Svalbard round trips add a Copenhagen hotel night and charters to Longyearbyen, and the Greenland trips add charters from Reykjavik to Kangerlussuaq.252728 The FAQ expects at least one kayak session per guest on Arctic cruises in normal conditions and keeps guests 656 ft (200 m) from polar bears and 984 ft (300 m) from walrus.16
What are Swan Hellenic's booking and cancellation terms?
You can hold a booking free for four working days, then pay a 20% deposit (30% for suites), with the balance due 120 days before departure.1630 Cancellation costs USD 300 per person up to 120 days out, 20% of the package from 119 to 90 days, 75% from 89 to 61 days and 100% from 60 days.30 A change of date is not a right: it is allowed once, up to 61 days before departure, onto a more expensive trip starting within six months of the original date, and handing the booking to another traveler costs USD 50.30
Children must be at least 6, and under-8s need the captain's permission; children of 6 to 16 in a third or fourth berth with two full-paying adults "receive 35% of the adult fare," in the FAQ's words, and a third or fourth adult gets 50% off.16 Because travel insurance is mandatory, buy a policy with cancellation and evacuation cover as soon as you pay the deposit.
How does Swan Hellenic compare with Atlas and Seabourn?
It undercuts both on its cheapest dates while bundling the same Buenos Aires hotel night and charter flights. Atlas Ocean Voyages is the closest match in ship size and inclusions, and Seabourn the upmarket alternative.

Who should skip Swan Hellenic?
Skip it if you want kayaking or other activities included in the fare, if you travel alone and will not pay a single supplement, or if you need to cancel late without losing most of the fare.51630 Children under 6 cannot go on polar trips, and guests with significant mobility limits should talk to the line first, since many activities mean stepping between the ship and a Zodiac while both are moving.16 If the lowest price matters most, compare the fares on our HX, Oceanwide Expeditions and Quark Expeditions pages before you book.
