What is Seabourn Pursuit?

Seabourn Pursuit is the second expedition ship from Seabourn and the near-twin of Seabourn Venture: 264 guests, a PC6 polar-class hull, 24 Zodiacs, kayaks and a 19-person expedition team.¹ The T. Mariotti yard handed it over in Genoa on July 31, 2023, a year after Venture, and it entered service on August 12, 2023, with five Mediterranean voyages before it crossed the Atlantic.²¹ Adam Tihany designed the interiors, as he did on Venture.²²⁰

The difference between the sisters is the map. Pursuit is Seabourn's southern-hemisphere ship: it spends the austral summer on the Antarctic Peninsula and the Chilean fjords, then crosses the Pacific to Easter Island, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Australia's Kimberley coast, with no Arctic sailing in 2027.³⁴ It also carries Seabourn's cheapest Antarctic fare of 2026-27: $15,998 per person in a Veranda Suite on March 13, 2027, against $17,298 for the cheapest Venture sailing.³¹⁶

Who named Seabourn Pursuit?

Its godparents are the Wunambal Gaambera Traditional Owners, whose country in the Kimberley includes Ngula (Jar Island), Vansittart Bay and the Mitchell Plateau.¹⁵ Seabourn set the naming ceremony for Ngula on its June 22 to July 2, 2024 Kimberley voyage, with three community representatives on board, and paired the appointment with a donation and art supplies for Wunambal Gaambera artists.¹⁵ Venture, by contrast, was named in the fast ice of the Weddell Sea on November 20, 2022.²⁶

How big is Seabourn Pursuit?

It is 557 ft (about 170 m) long and 78 ft (about 24 m) wide, carries 264 guests and is built to PC6 Polar Class standards.¹ Seabourn says all 132 suites on its expedition ships face the sea and have a veranda, and both ships share one deck plan.⁵⁶ PC6 covers summer and autumn operation in medium first-year ice, which may include old ice inclusions.²¹

IAATO, the Antarctic tour operators' association, lists Pursuit at 264 passengers.⁷ In the 2025-26 season it made 11 Antarctic voyages carrying 2,789 passengers, and IAATO's preliminary estimate for 2026-27 is 11 voyages and 2,695 passengers.⁸ With at most 100 visitors ashore at a site at a time, a full ship lands in three groups (our arithmetic), and as a ship of more than 200 passengers it is barred from 11 of the 45 Antarctic visitor sites that have published guidelines.⁹²⁴ Our Venture page explains how those limits play out at Petermann and Cuverville Islands.

When does Seabourn Pursuit sail to Antarctica in 2026-27?

From November 21, 2026 to March 24, 2027, every Antarctic trip still on sale on Pursuit is a round trip from Buenos Aires with a charter flight to Ushuaia, apart from two long voyages that begin with the March 13 departure and continue west.³ Fares read on October 15, 2026, per person in a Veranda Suite with two sharing, taxes and fees included:

"Per expedition day" is our arithmetic: the fare divided by the days spent in Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands. The 30-day voyage from San Antonio on November 12, which adds the 10-day Chilean Fjords trip to the 21-day one, was sold out.³

The pattern to notice is how the 11-day fare falls through the season: $24,998 on February 11, $19,498 on February 21, $17,998 on March 3 and $15,998 on March 13, so the last departure costs $9,000 less per person than the first one on sale (our arithmetic).³ Our guide to the best time to visit Antarctica covers what changes between February and March. Which suite should you book on Seabourn Pursuit?

On the cheapest departure, book up: on March 13, 2027 the Owner's Suite cost only $3,000 per person more than a Veranda Suite and has 1,023 sq ft (95 m²) against 355 sq ft (33 m²).¹¹¹

Fares are from Seabourn's fare service on October 14 and match its search results on October 15.¹¹³ The gap is smaller still after the Explore Beyond Event, which gives $500 of shipboard credit per Veranda Suite but $2,000 per Penthouse Suite and above for bookings made by November 16, 2026.¹⁴ For two guests, the Owner's Suite costs $6,000 more and returns $1,500 more credit (our arithmetic). Earlier departures do not show this pattern: on February 11 the Owner's Suite was $9,000 above the Veranda Suite.³ Wheelchair-accessible suites have roll-in showers only.¹

What is included on Seabourn Pursuit, and what costs extra?

The Antarctic fare covers the trip from Buenos Aires: the published itinerary for the November 21 voyage lists an airport transfer, a night at the Alvear Palace Hotel, a hospitality room for early arrivals and the air charter to Ushuaia, all included, and allows two bags per person of up to 50 lb (23 kg) each.¹⁰ Fares include taxes and fees.¹⁴ On board and ashore, Seabourn includes Zodiac cruises, ice landings and walks with the expedition team, the Polar Plunge and Caviar on the Ice where conditions allow, a custom Helly Hansen parka and waterproof day pack, premium spirits and fine wines at all times, and gratuities: tipping is "neither required, nor expected."²⁷

The paid extras on the March 13 voyage are the Optional Kayak Expedition at $325, the four-day Image Masters photography program at $1,850 and Polar Pass at $1,850 or $2,250.¹² Polar Pass is the one that matters on a ship that lands in three groups: it lets you choose to be first off the ship at landings and gives more time ashore and longer Zodiac outings, but you cannot combine it with Image Masters on the same voyage.²⁸ The submarine is gone: Seabourn ended dives on both expedition ships at the close of the 2025-26 season.¹³

Does Seabourn Pursuit sail to the Arctic?

No, not in 2027. After its last Antarctic departure the ship sails to Papeete by April 26, 2027, works Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Kimberley through the southern winter, crosses the South Pacific, and returns for an 18-day Chilean Fjords & Antarctica voyage from October 18, 2027.⁴³ Seabourn's 2027 Arctic program is on Venture, including a 20-day Northwest Passage and Baffin Island voyage from July 30, 2027, from $31,998.¹⁹ For other ships heading north, see our Northwest Passage cruises and Greenland cruises guides.

How does Seabourn Pursuit compare with Seabourn Venture?

Pick by itinerary, not by ship. The two share a design, a deck plan and an onboard program, and IAATO counted almost identical traffic for them in 2025-26.⁶⁸

Outside Seabourn, Viking Polaris carries 378 guests and sells 13 days from $14,999 per person, and HX's 490-guest Roald Amundsen starts at $9,736 for 12 days.²²²³ Both land in more groups than Pursuit. Is Seabourn Pursuit a good ship for Antarctica?

Yes, if you want Seabourn's all-inclusive service with the lowest fares the line sells in Antarctica.
