What is Seaventure, and who sells it now?

Seaventure is a 1990 expedition ship for about 150 guests, formerly Hapag-Lloyd's Bremen, owned since late 2024 by China's 66° Expeditions, which now sells it on its own website. Polar Latitudes no longer does. The site has an English mode with fares in dollars: 2026-27 Antarctic voyages from $9,855.75 per person, three sharing, on November 14, 2026. The onboard product is built for Chinese travelers first.

What is Seaventure, and who sells it now?

Seaventure is a 1990 expedition ship, known for most of its life as Hapag-Lloyd's Bremen, that has belonged to 66° Expeditions, a Chinese polar cruise line, since late 2024.12 Polar Latitudes Expeditions, which chartered it from 2021, replaced it with Discoverer on every departure from the 2026-27 season, and Seaventure now sails full time for 66°, so you can no longer book it through Polar Latitudes.3 Polar Latitudes' FAQ still describes Seaventure's cabins, and the sharing text of its Discoverer page still reads "Welcome to the MS Seaventure", which is why some searches land there.45

What that means if you want to book in English:

  • You book with 66° directly. Its website, 66expeditions.com, opens in Chinese, but the ENGLISH switch in the menu shows the same voyages, cabins, inclusions and per-person fares in dollars. Questions and bookings go to [email protected], and the company named on the site, 66 Expeditions Cruises (HK) Co Limited, gives an address in Hong Kong.6
  • The ship is set up for Chinese travelers first. It was refitted in 2025 for a product aimed at the Chinese market, with its own food and drink, culturally themed entertainment and Mandarin-language service.1 66° says its expedition guides are multilingual, and AECO, the Arctic operators' association, describes a bilingual service for Chinese-speaking and international guests.67 Ask before you pay whether the briefings and landings on your departure will be led in English.
  • The cheapest fares are for three sharing. The lowest open 2026-27 Antarctic fare is $9,855.75 per person, which matches one place in a three-person cabin.6
  • 66° sets the rules. Its booking settings list a 20% deposit and final payment 120 days before departure, and a service charge of US$15 per person per night is added on board.6

How much does a Seaventure Antarctica cruise cost in 2026-27?

66° lists eight Seaventure departures from Ushuaia between November 2026 and March 2027, and the lowest fare still open is $9,855.75 per person on the 12-day November 14 voyage, an Earlybird 15% off price against $11,595.6 These are the per-person fares 66° showed on October 15, 2026, with no end date for the Earlybird offers:

DepartureDaysVoyageFare (regular)6
Nov 5, 202611Explore the Antarctica Peninsula$8,995, cheapest cabin sold out
Nov 14, 202612Explore the Antarctica Peninsula, with the South Shetland Islands$9,855.75 ($11,595)
Dec 16, 202613Celebrate Christmas at the End of the World$12,320.75 ($14,495)
Dec 27, 202614Antarctic Circle Crossing, with Great Wall Station$13,425.75 ($15,795)
Jan 8, 202714Antarctic Circle Crossing$10,876 ($13,595), cheapest cabin sold out
Feb 10, 202714Antarctic Circle Crossing, with Great Wall Station$11,596 ($14,495), cheapest cabin sold out
Feb 22, 202714Antarctic Circle Crossing$10,876 ($13,595)
Mar 6, 202721Antarctica Grand Finale Voyage: Peninsula, South Georgia, Falklands, ends in Puerto Madryn$14,471.25 ($19,295)

The fare shown for each departure equals one of three places in the Family Triple Stateroom, the cheapest category on 66°'s cabin list, so two people wanting a cabin to themselves should expect to pay more (our reading of the cabin list).6 Every Antarctic fare includes a hotel night in Ushuaia with an airport transfer, a waterproof jacket, 10GB of Wi-Fi, beer, house wine and soft drinks with dinner, and landing fees; flights, insurance and the service charge are extra.6 66°'s Chinese-language listing describes Great Wall Station as the starting point of China's Antarctic research.6

For comparison, Discoverer, the ship that replaced Seaventure at Polar Latitudes, had a two-bed Ocean Stateroom at $8,997 per person on a 12-day voyage from March 4, 2027.8 Our guide to what an Antarctica trip costs covers flights and extras.

All eight voyages cross the Drake Passage by sea, the March voyage only on the way south: it continues to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands and ends in Puerto Madryn, Argentina.6 IAATO's April 2026 estimate had 66° down for five seaborne Antarctic voyages and one air-cruise; the schedule 66° now publishes has eight seaborne departures and no air-cruise.96

Where does Seaventure sail in the Arctic in 2027?

Seaventure spends the northern summer of 2027 in the North Atlantic and the Arctic, from the British Isles and Iceland to Svalbard and East Greenland, with 13 departures between May 25 and September 17.6 The cheapest Arctic trip listed is the 9-day Spitsbergen Highlights, which starts in Oslo and flies guests to Longyearbyen to board: from $7,036 per person, three sharing, on June 28, 2027, Earlybird 20% off $8,795.6 Three of the crossings via East Greenland were already sold out when we checked.6

Who owns Seaventure?

66° Expeditions owns and operates Seaventure. Two Chinese companies, the Guangdong Travel Holding Group and the Guangdong Port and Shipping Group, set up the line in 2024 and called it China's first polar expedition cruise line.2 The ship was delivered to the new owner in late 2024, and its first 66° season, in 2025, covered Iceland, Svalbard, Greenland and Jan Mayen.1 Since May 2025, Ocean Advice, part of the Basel-based UNITED WATERWAYS group, has handled its nautical and technical management.10 The name refers to the 66th parallel and the Arctic Circle.7

Does Seaventure still sail for Polar Latitudes?

No. In March 2026 Polar Latitudes Expeditions announced that Discoverer, a ship its parent company had bought a majority stake in, would replace Seaventure on all its departures from 2026-27, while Seaventure moved to full-time service with 66° Expeditions.3 Guests already booked were moved to Discoverer in the same cabin category they had reserved, and Polar Latitudes said it would contact every affected guest and travel agent.3

Seaventure had sailed under the Polar Latitudes brand since 2021, was still in the combined Polar Latitudes and Albatros fleet for 2025-26, and carried 1,753 passengers on 13 Polar Latitudes voyages that season, by IAATO's count.3119 That last season was already shared: 66° owned the ship and ran Arctic and Northern Europe voyages on it before it went south for Polar Latitudes under an earlier agreement.1

If you were booked on Seaventure with Polar Latitudes, you now sail on Discoverer: 108 m (354 ft) long, built in Finland in 1989, refurbished in 2018 and 2023, ice class 1A, with a limit of 140 guests.12 Discoverer's fares are on our Polar Latitudes page.

What is the Seaventure ship like?

Seaventure is a classic purpose-built expedition ship with an ice-strengthened hull, fin stabilizers and outward-facing cabins. These are its particulars, mostly from its last Polar Latitudes deck plan, archived in November 2025:

Cruise Industry News calls it one of the original purpose-built expedition cruise ships, with a double-bottom hull, strengthened propeller shafts and bow, and extra ice protection on the rudders.15 Both Polar Latitudes and 66° have called its ice rating the highest in its category; that is the companies' claim, not an independent ranking.166

66°'s cabin list has five kinds of room: a Porthole Stateroom of about 188 sq ft (17.5 m²) on Deck 3, a Family Triple Stateroom with a pull-down third bed and Window Staterooms on Decks 4 and 5, each about 200 sq ft (18.6 m²), a Veranda Stateroom of about 227 sq ft (21.1 m²), and the Owner's Suite of about 332 sq ft (30.8 m²).6 Its deck list places an expedition lounge, swimming pool, gym and sauna on Deck 7, a lounge, bar and library on Deck 5, the Oceanview Restaurant on Deck 4, and the hospital, Zodiac area and science lab on Deck 3; 66° adds an outdoor restaurant and Starlink internet.6

How many passengers does Seaventure carry?

Seaventure has 164 berths, according to IAATO and its 2025 Polar Latitudes deck plan, and 66° says it carries 150 guests.14136 Polar Latitudes capped it at 139, or up to 149 when it needed room to rebook guests.13 IAATO's 2026-27 estimate of 625 passengers on five voyages works out to 125 a voyage (our arithmetic).9 All of these are above the 100 people IAATO allows ashore at one Antarctic site at a time, so passengers land in groups of 100 or fewer (our reading of the rule).17

What was Seaventure called before?

Seaventure is best known as the Bremen of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. It was built for Frontier Cruises and entered service in late 1990, and Hapag-Lloyd bought it three years later.15 The Swiss river cruise company Scylla bought it in early 2019 and took it over in late 2020, after Hapag-Lloyd retired it during the Covid pandemic.1152 Its managers also list the names Seascape and SeaQuest in its history and say it has completed more than 300 polar expeditions.10

Under Scylla it sailed on charter for Scylla's VIVA Cruises brand, for Iceland ProCruises and for Polar Latitudes, until Scylla sold it in 2024 to refocus on river cruising.152

How does Seaventure compare with Discoverer and the X-Bow ships?

Seaventure costs about the same as the Polar Latitudes ships for Antarctica in 2026-27; the real difference is who it is built for.

Choose Seaventure if you are happy on a bilingual ship run first for Chinese travelers and want one of its dates, such as Christmas, an Antarctic Circle crossing or the March voyage to South Georgia. If you would rather have a two-person cabin at a similar price, Discoverer's March 4 departure costs less than Seaventure's cheapest three-person place; our Polar Latitudes Expeditions page compares those ships, and how to choose an Antarctica cruise covers the rest.86

Our verdict

A 1990 purpose-built expedition ship with a long polar record, now sold only by its owner, China's 66° Expeditions, whose English-language site lists 2026-27 Antarctic fares from about $9,900 per person, three sharing. English speakers can book it direct, but the service is built around Chinese travelers, so confirm English guiding before paying the 20% deposit; Polar Latitudes no longer sells it.

Best for: Mandarin-speaking travelers, travelers comfortable on a bilingual Chinese-market ship, groups of three sharing a cabin, Christmas and Antarctic Circle dates, past Bremen and Polar Latitudes passengers tracing the ship
